Join the Birthday Celebration at Parker’s Prelude
If it works with your schedule, you might time your Inn at Hastings Park staycation to overlap with Parker’s Prelude, taking place July 13th just a stone’s throw away at the famous Lexington Battle Green.
The celebration marks the 295th birthday of Captain John Parker, the farmer and soldier who led the Lexington Militia in their clash with British regulars during the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775, which saw the first casualties of the American Revolutionary War. It’s Captain Parker with whom The Lexington Minuteman statue presiding over the Lexington Battle Green is associated.
Kicking off at 11 AM on the 13th and running till 2 PM, Parker’s Prelude will feature some rousing live music by the Jamaica Plain Honk Band, the Children’s Community Chorus, and the William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corp, as well as a joint performance by the Lexington Bicentennial Band and the Concord Band.
There’ll also be food trucks, various activities, and an honest-to-goodness birthday cake to enjoy. We hope you can make it! (And consider Parker’s Prelude something of a big leadup to the semiquincentennial of the Battles of Lexington and Concord next year!)
