Celebrate Patriots’ Day 2024 in Lexington, MA

A legal holiday in Massachusetts (and a number of other states), Patriots’ Day memorializes the opening salvos of the American Revolution: the battles of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy that took place on April 19, 1775.

Among the most hallowed grounds of the Revolutionary War, Lexington celebrates Patriots’ Day with plenty of gusto. That holiday proper takes place on the third Monday in April, which this year falls April 15th, but in Lexington there are also a slew of leadup events the preceding Friday and Saturday (the 13th and 14th) as well.

Those events cover a lot of historically minded and community-focused action. They include a Liberty Ride Guided Trolley Tour as well as tours of the Lexington Battle Green, the Hancock-Clarke House, and the Monroe and Buckman taverns: all legendary sites associated with that first great standoff between colonial militias and the Redcoats.

There will be plenty of historical reenactments underway during the Patriots’ Day celebration, including of Parker’s Revenge, Paul Revere’s arrival at the Battle Green, the Battle at Tower Park, and the Battle of Lexington.

Then there are the traditional fife-and-drum performances, the screening of First Shot!: The Day the Revolution Began, and the Annual Patriots’ Day Hand Bell Concert at Hancock Church.

The pinnacle of the holiday festivities is the Lexington Patriots’ Day Afternoon Parade, which’ll step off at 2 PM on Monday, April 15th from Massachusetts Avenue and conclude on Worthen Road.
